What she fails to point out is that what we eat directly leads to how we feel. If we eat fat laden foods, we end up feeling sluggish and tired. If this were true, why do overweight people not only have problems with their heart but with their joints from the stress of supporting that weight?

I disagree with her on this point as well. When she adds that the BMI Body Mass Index is an illegitimate way to determine how healthy your weight is, she adds to the anxiety of the medical industries not being able to properly diagnose unhealthy lifestyles. Although she may correct in her assumption on the BMI, it leads us to believe that other tests are incorrect as well. On the other hand, I will insist that, left to our own decisions on food, we will choose what is unhealthy for us.

If we eat only what is inherently good for us, then why do we have so many problems with obesity? I can even add a personal experience. Health is directly connected to diet.

Diet is also directly connected to weight. If you eat to much, or eat foods high in fat, in most cases you will become obese. High sugar food, which is hard to find in nature, supplied us with the energy we needed to survive and hunt. Food high in fat helped to keep us warm in the winter and also supplied us with energy. Bibliography Maxfield, Mary. New York, London: W. Reflective Writing: This assignment was very challenging. In order to make a complete argument, I had to read the article over and over again.

I also had to do some research on the side to make my side of the argument clear. I picked this particular writing by Mary Maxfield because it incited in me my own opinions and challenged the research that I have come to know as fact. I have never made an argument in the form of an essay before, and I believe this will better prepare me for future assignments. Although I struggled with the paper, I actually revised it several times, I feel like I have accomplished something when I read it over.

In turn he provides his own rules for escaping the western diet as well as the idea of nutritionism set forth by scientists. Pollan explains that scientific theories of nutritionism focus on individual nutrients rather than foods as a whole Pollan, He further goes on to refute this claim mentioning that these scientific theories contradict with one another. On one hand there are scientists who blame health problems on a lack of nutrients, and on the other hand there are scientists who blame those health problems on a sugar soaked diet.
